Google Code Jam India 2006 !

March 21, 2006 1 comment

Once again the serene and different Black Screen of TopCoder’s Competition arena was in front of me. Yes I was coding in the Qualification round of Google Code Jam India 2006. It was about 11.30 P.M after another tiring day. I had no compiler installed on my home PC, no IDE, no .NET and no Java. I solved the first problem in Note Pad and then finally started coding in the editor of the competition arena. I have forgotten all the Java syntax and conventions and was still coding in it. Got so many mistakes in syntax and finally coded the 1000 points problem in about 17 minutes. Its was so easy, but I had so many typo and language mistakes in it. Any how it was completed and submitted for above 600 marks. Then I started to code the 250 marks problem, a bit trickier but coded it again without any thing in about 20 minutes and successfully submitted it. Mean while my younger brother was sitting besides me asking me his issues about his Computer Studies paper, so my intentions were partly diverted with tiredness and guiding my bro.. Today when I saw the System Test results I found my both problems has a typo mistake of copy paste and both failed on 1 Test Case each. Google Jam

India has rated me above 1000 till now, a bad one considering how easy were problems and they could have been solved successfully in less than 20 minutes out of 60 minutes. Many other guys from my office tried it and some got 1 right solution or both failed in test cases. But any way once again a nice time pass and good activity to prove ourselves that still we are no that ‘rusted’. Google is really cool in this stuff of arranging such programming competitions from some past years in collaboration with TopCoder with manifold intentions. I hope these experiences turn out to be something good for me other than a pleasant time pass to fulfill the so called self-satisfaction!

Plugged in – Want to be Reloaded !

March 16, 2006 Leave a comment

I have always wished to be chosen for some Hi-Fi extremely technical and difficult out of the box work. Though I may not possess skills of highest level but still I believe in me in doing any thing. Even when I have not done a bit of programming I was interested in Artificial Intelligence due to the Movie The Matrix released in 1999. It was so awesome to see on screen the Sci-Fi Computational ideas, The Philosophical Dialogues, The Mythological Sequences, the Kung Fu in American Style, The Bullet Time scenes etc..

What I have been deeply concerned was the idea of logical evolution of Computers or in broader sense, the Machines. The idea that the world, and every thing like air, water and sky are results of computer programs by machines is fascinating in itself. And I started thinking on same lines for so many years to come. Reverse Engineering, DataPaths, Hacking and some other clichés of Computer Science are frequently used. Loading and Plugging of modules, the Glyphs and all the drama make this movie a best. The idea i.e. Computer Programs are out put of other programs and they are real time items are extremely innovative.

The need for explaining this idea is to express a bit, a part of my thoughts, about what I may wanna do in my future computing life! I have a graduate degree, a software engineering job but this all is just not enough, this is nothing or a single bit. Unless I use my mind to fullest in this world and give a life’s best shot to some great idea and implement it successfully, I feel unsatisfied, unaccomplished and incomplete. This thinking, this urge this fury has never let me to sit idle doing some silly work or satisfy with something hackneyed or what every one has done. It’s now becoming clear to me that unless I am here in this pathetic Interface and Database design and some stupid software engineering job field. This is gonna lead me to nothing, but a typical managerial position after some years of extreme dirty , useless work and writing those lines of code which may have very low probability of being used for some intelligent purpose,. I am not gonna make it this way, I know. Fed up with the routine work, fed up with the common tasks and every night thinking another day of life waisted in doing some thing pretty ordinary. So now time is drawing closer to make a choice, but what choice? Some one please help in this regard 😦 i really need to be Plugged in – Reloaded in some great work.

Microsoft vs. Others and sentiments !

Salutations, to whom it may concern 😉

I have been working in IBM WebShpere, IBM Db2 Content Manager and IBM MQ Work Flows. And after using and sensing them for some time now, I can clearly say that Microsoft is really on top of all other Software Companies, after now done with IBM , SUN, and Linux..either it be an operating system, or development IDE, or a programming language or a super GUI, my maximum points goes to Microsoft. There are so many problems in using IBM Tools while development, there are so super stupid issues of interfaces, logics, referential integrity constraints, and extremely poor management in IBM tools. I have worked in J2SE some 3 years ago, and will probably do now again, when I may work in JSP's I have the same feeling about it, its just not even touching 'C' Family. Any ways I hope I 'learn' while working with IBM stuff. (I miss u Microsoft :()

Oh after being techie, just got a bit sentimental the other day on seeing a man aged abt 65-70 dragging goods of people, and when he saw me watching him, tears broke down in his eyes and in my heart. He told me he has been doing this for 45 years now, and silently asked me with his jestures what good are you all being with all your so called degrees, education, skills, knowledge – to hell with them ! and I was thinking about what good are we ?? and What does really matter? What Enlightened Moderated people are trying to do any thing for him or people like him? Every luxury, success and thing sounds shit and nothing when I saw such cases and nothing matters I think…

P.S: I hate luck, why cannnot talent and skill do it all? [I just saw another great misshap in real life with some one really awsomely talented !]

Life’s Pedagogue !

March 6, 2006 3 comments

Well life is full of lessons for all, and as some one has very well said about life, It’s the best teacher, any ways my most important lessons are,

1. Don’t ever get overconfident.
2. Expect any thing, yes any thing in life, you may end up winning a Nobel Prize or Turing Award or you can end up on road having nothing.
3. Life goes on, for the only most important reason – it has to.
4. If you know, do know, that you can do it!
5. In most of the cases dont trust any one.
6. Listen to every one, let them all speak up, shout, do only what your brain says.
7. Dont shout or announce what you know, dont show your calibre to every one, just prove it when required.
8. Many people get many opportunities, but only 1 big genuine opportunity, try your life’s best, give your heart and soul out shot to avail it.
9. You should know what you know, and you should know what you dont know. Remember that any one who knows not what he knows and also any one who know not what he knows not cant ever win.
10. Your parents are the best people to be consulted in any problem you are plunged in.
11. Every thing in this world means business, so be business minded.
12. Most importantly having hopes of touching the sky, one can reach stars at-least.
13. For 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999…% cases be fair.
14. You should do you duty best, i.e. Go the last mile, and damn enjoy it.
15. Try to figure out answer to this question, Why am I fighting to live, If I am living to die?
16. Dont let it go, ever!

These are the most important learnings of my life, and I have been unsuccessful in incorporating them in my routine. Hope these works for you.
